Derek's Road From Couch Potato to Triathlete

A couple of years ago, the topic of triathlons came up at work. I remember someone saying to me that I would never be able to do that.

Later that year I finished my first two sprint triathlons. I'm still a "fat kid" (lol) but I'm now addicted to the triathlon sport.

To the left you will see "before and after" photos. In the before I'm at around 270 lbs. We'll get my after photo up here around end of October, 2008, or when I reach my target weigh goal, whichever is sooner. I'm well on my way to my target for my goal of getting down to 200 lbs by then.

I continue to be amazed at how easy it's been for my training this year. A lot of work, but the results have come much easier. I attribute most of it to "smart training" and education on how to best train. For the most part, previously my training was a matter of pounging out mile after mile, lap after lap all while trying to cut back on my calories. No pain no gain right? Don't get me wrong, it's no walk in the park, but it doesn't have to be that way.

The "smart training" is not something I thought up on my own however. It comes from a program I signed up for after reading about it in several places. The program is developed by Tri Smarter and the program I specifically signed up for was the "Tri2Loose" program. It's a combination of a nutrition and training program. I've found out so many things about my nutrition where some of it is "common sense stuff" many might know but they were able to help me painlessly figure out how to address it. The training has been great, as it's almost been effortless, reletive to what I was pounding through before, and yet I still see great results. The combination of the focus on both aspects is truly changing my life... in a great way. I feel great and the results are clearly there; it's clearly working.

And no.... I get no money from them; this is not and advertisement.
