Shin splint relief…
June 25, 2008
Okay, given I was dealing with the shin splints, I went out and got new shoes, coach tuned my run focus a little, and I stayed off the concrete sidewalks.
Another thing I very helpful, sort of happened by accident. The weather here had been unusually hot for this time of year. It’s been in the upper 90’s and 100+. I had been doing most recent running on my treadmill. I prefer getting outside since I don’t care for staring at the walls while on the treadmill several hours a week, but given the heat and all I chose to train a little cooler. (See I’ve still got an extra layer to deal with until I shed a few more lbs lol)
Anyway - treadmill is on carpet and a rubber mat, which is taking a lot of the impact off my legs. I’ve mixed in a couple of runs at a softer track as well to keep it interesting.
All my prior running had been 90% on concrete so I imagine that was a major contributor to the splints.
