Shin Splints….
June 11, 2008
I was never sure of what was going on put I seemed to constantly get these pains in my shins; I suspected it may be shin splints, but never knew that they were or why I may be getting them. They’ve been getting painful enough that they are really starting to effect my training. Was exchanging with my coach at TriSmarter and did some reading up on it, and it definitely looks like what I’m dealing with. argghhh.
Thing is I seem to get them so easy and so often. Based on what I’m reading, and my shoe wear, my form, there doesn’t seem to be any overpronation involved here. I’ll be off to the store to get some analysis on my running style to see if maybe some different shoes may help. I see more spending in my future. Hey, it’s for better health so it’s hard to argue with that. Looks like we’ll ease a little on the running load a little, stay off the concrete, and with some new shoes I can avoid in the future.
Great to have someone else (coach) to bounce these things off of. This is where having a custom training program adjusting to things like this works well to help out a “novice” triathlete like me stay on track.
